I left home May 3 heading to Chicago to catch my flight. The trip was pretty uneventful getting to Chicago. It was pretty chilly, gray and rainy leaving.
I had 2 carry-ons and 2 big suitcases that I was taking with me. Unfortunately, they actually weighed the carry-ons and I found I could either only take one carry-on and check the other, empty the contents into my suitcases, pay for overweight suitcases and split the contents into two carry-ons. I finally decided to take both carry-ons, splitting the contents of one into the two suitcases. Oops. Who would have thought they would weigh carry-ons? Oh well, lesson learned.
By the time I checked in, repacked the suitcases, and made it through security, I didn't have much time to grab food. Unfortunately, it was a bag of chex mix and water ($7). What a rip off. I also decided to take my malaria medication (before I forgot). BAD IDEA!!!
After getting on the plane and eating the dinner provided, I started feeling really lightheaded and sick to my stomach. I'm not sure how long I was able to sit there and try to convince myself I was ok, but eventually I HAD to get up! The flight attendant is my hero!! Thank you to the kind woman and the other stranger that helped me!
I made the rest of the flight with no problems and landed in Amsterdam off to find the rest of my group. I found Stacy and Rachel shortly after they landed and we were off to explore the airport.
Eventually, we were off to Zambia...the long flight. This flight was about 12 hours from Amsterdam to Harare, Zimbabwe (to drop passengers off and to pick up passengers) to Lusaka. Somehow, these seats were more uncomfortable than the seats from Chicago to Amsterdam. Someday, I'll fly first class...(yes, I will keep dreaming!)
