This morning as I headed to breakfast, I couldn't believe I was in Zambia! I can't wait for the typical Kazemba breakfast (porridge, hard boiled eggs, and bread with either butter or peanut butter). Unfortunately, they didn't have porridge this morning :(. Instead of bread and butter/peanut butter, they had scones. Still very yummy! As I ate breakfast, I was able to talk to some of the students and meet new ones. It's going to be hard remembering everyone's name!
Today will be the first day of classes for the Sophomores and Seniors with Pastor Keith and Pastor Billy. The Juniors have been taking a class with Lonny Hofer (who will be at IBCZ for a month) and the Freshman are with Pastor Arnot (who lives at the college, they only have class from 8:30-12:30). The students will be in class from 8:30-12:30 and from 2-3pm. I will be busy taking pictures when they are not in class (and some when they are in class).
Class usually starts with singing. I definitely have my voice recorder handy to capture their singing. The voices are authentic, pure and amazing!!
This morning, I decided to head to the far ends of the campus, Compounds 11-15. One of my favorite spots on campus is sitting on the patio area of Compound 11. The view is breathtaking. I could sit there for hours just trying to take it all in. As you look out, you can see the villages in the distance.
It's a great spot for some quiet time with God. As you sit and listen, you only hear the birds, the rustling of the wind, and quiet. A far cry from all of the noise in the city (the sirens, cars, fireworks, etc).
After my quiet time, I headed around the college to take pictures of the progress. Things are taking shape and buildings are getting completed. There are more buildings that need to be finished.
As I headed to Compound 3 to take pictures of meal prep, I saw a couple of my students from 2009: Mary and Davina. They are now working at the college cooking. They have been helping with lunch and starting dinner as the students are in class. It was good to see them and to catch up with them.
Lunch today included nshima, rice, beans, chinese cabbage, and watermelon. I opted for rice, beans, a little bit of cabbage and watermelon.
Tonight, I helped the girls make dinner. Bucca Bucca, Nshima, Soup, Watermelon, Rice, Rape. I had a little bit of bucca bucca and nshima with soup. I did get to try Freetas (fried buscuit) and a fresh scone (biscuit). It was very good!! It was interesting speaking to the students. I'm finding that I am having a hard time remembering names of the students. Hopefully, it will be easier as the week goes on. Mildred, Estart, Doreen, and Juliet helped with dinner. George provides oversight. Gift and Jailous made the scones.
